React Right First Aid
CPR, emergency response and first aid certification. Practical training you can actually use.
Most People Who Need to Help Are Not Ready To
The gap between knowing roughly what to do and being able to actually do it under pressure is larger than most people expect. When something serious happens in front of you, your hands need to know what to do before your brain catches up. That only comes from practice, not from reading about it.
React Right is SSI’s emergency response and first aid programme. It covers CPR, AED use, wound and injury management, emergency oxygen administration, and diving-specific emergencies. The training is hands-on from the start. You will perform compressions on a manikin, operate an AED, and work through realistic scenarios – not just watch someone demonstrate and fill in a worksheet.
Courses are available as individual modules or as a complete programme. We also run group sessions for businesses, dive centres, hotels and marine operators. If you need a specific combination, get in touch and we will put it together.
React Right Modules
Primary Care - CPR and AED
Module 1 – Primary Care
Duration: Half day (3-4 hours)
Description: The foundation of emergency response and the most important skill on this list. Cardiac arrest is survivable when someone nearby knows what to do. This module covers adult, child and infant CPR, how to use an AED, and how to respond to choking. If you only ever do one first aid course, make it this one.
Skills list:
- Adult, child and infant CPR
- AED operation
- Choking response for adults and children
- Recovery position
Secondary Care - First Aid
Module 2 – Secondary Care
Duration: Half day (3-4 hours)
Description: Practical first aid for injuries and medical situations that need attention but are not immediately life-threatening. Covers the situations you are actually likely to encounter – bleeding, burns, fractures, allergic reactions, and medical emergencies. Calm, methodical, and hands-on throughout.
Skills list:
- Wound care and bleeding control
- Burns and scalds
- Fractures and soft tissue injuries
- Shock, allergic reactions and medical emergencies
Emergency Oxygen Administration
Module 3 – Emergency Oxygen
Duration: 2-3 hours
Description: Required for all dive professionals and strongly recommended for anyone who works in or around the water. You learn to set up oxygen equipment, select the right delivery method for the situation, and administer oxygen safely while waiting for emergency services. A skill that matters most in diving and marine environments where help can be slow to arrive.
Skills list:
- Oxygen equipment assembly and checks
- Delivery methods and mask selection
- Contraindications and safe use
- Application in diving-related emergencies

Who Takes React Right?
Dive Professionals
React Right is a mandatory prerequisite for Divemaster, Assistant Instructor and Instructor certifications. You cannot progress professionally without a current first aid certification. Get it done early in your training pathway.
Lifeguards
CPR and first aid are required components of lifeguard certification. React Right covers these requirements completely and gives you a standalone card that remains valid independently of your lifeguard cert.
Workplace First Aiders
Many workplaces are required to have trained first aiders on site. React Right meets EU workplace first aid standards and gives employers the documentation they need for compliance.
Boat Crew and Marine Workers
If you work on a vessel or in a marine environment, emergency oxygen and aquatic first aid are not optional extras. Many maritime roles require them. Even where they are not mandated, the situations they prepare you for are real.
Anyone Who Wants to Be Ready
You do not need a professional reason to take this course. Emergencies happen at home, on holiday, at the beach. The CPR and choking skills alone are worth the half day it takes to learn them.
Why React Right?
Recognised Internationally
SSI React Right is accepted worldwide for professional diving requirements and meets workplace first aid standards across the EU. One course, no questions at borders or employers.
Hands-On Throughout
You practice on every module. CPR compressions, AED operation, wound management, oxygen delivery. You leave having done the things, not just having watched them. That difference matters when it counts.
Built for Aquatic Environments
Generic workplace first aid courses do not cover decompression illness, near-drowning, or emergency oxygen. React Right does. If you spend time in or around water, that content is relevant to you.
Take One Module or All of Them
If you only need CPR recertification, take Primary Care. If you need the full package, take React Right Complete. We do not push people into courses they do not need.

Lifeguard Training
First aid is built into the lifeguard course, but a standalone React Right certification adds an extra credential that stays valid independently.
Scuba Diving Courses
React Right is not required for recreational diving courses, but it is always worth having if you spend serious time in the water.
